Phil started his teaching career in Ontario in 1990, where he taught grades 7 and 8 for 10 years. In 2000 Phil and his wife Venus decided to move their family back to their native Nova Scotia. From 2000-2005 Phil taught at a variety of schools within the Strait Regional School Board. Since 2005 he has been a Special Education/Resource teacher at Saint Andrew Junior School in Antigonish. Phil holds a B.A. (major in History) from St. F.X., a B.Ed. from U.N.B and a M.Ed. (curriculum- Special Education) from St. F.X.
Phil also served as an NSTU Insurance Trustee from 2011 - 2016. He obtained a certificate of Achievement in Foundations of Trust Management Standards (FTMS 2011) from the International Foundations of Employee Benefit Plans (I.F.E.B.P.). Phil also served as the Treasurer for his Local.
